39. John⁵ Shier (Jacob⁴, Nicholas³, Adam², Adam¹) reference 3223 (#3217) was born in Reinroe, Adare, Co. Limerick, Ireland May 25, 1792. John died August 17, 1874 in Brock Township, Ontario, at 82 years of age.

He married Catherine Piper. (Catherine Piper reference 3246) (Catherine Piper is #3240.) John, born in Reinroe, Adare. He farmed first at Reinroe. In 1826 he came to Canada with his wife and six children. On his way from Limerick he stayed over at the home of his brother Richard in LaPrairie, Quebec, intending first to settle there. He did not however fancy the soil and came on to Brock by way of Yonge St. He settled in lots 1 and 2 in the fifth concession of Brock. His deed to v:2 is dated September 4, 1846 to iv: 1 N1/2, 1849 and to v: 1 S1/2, 1863. After his arrival in Brock, John Shier was known variously as John Shier 11 "Little Gray John" (in irony, he was more than six feet tall), and "Rooster Shier". His wife was Catherine Piper, a pure-bred Irish Palatine. He died August 17, 1874 and is buried in St.John Cemetery, Brock. 8 sons and 6 daughters.

81 i. Eliza⁶ Shier reference 3248 (#3242) was born in Reinroe, Adare, Co. Limerick, Ireland December 9, 1819. Eliza died March 28, 1869 in Brock Township, Ontario, at 49 years of age. She married Henry White. (Henry White reference 3250) (Henry White is #3244.) Henry was born 1803. Henry died May 10, 1885 in Brock Township, Ontario, at 81 years of age.

82 ii. Jane Shier reference 3249 (#3243) was born in Reinroe, Adare, Co. Limerick, Ireland August 5, 1821. She married John Acton. (John Acton reference 2747) (John Acton is #2741.) John was born 1820. John was the son of Richard Acton and Mary Acton Swanick. John died March 5, 1909 in Sunderland, Ontario, at 88 years of age. His body was interred in Was 89. He was christened in Buried West Brock Cemetery.

83 iii. Jane Shire reference 4096 (#4090) was born in Reinroe, Adare, Co. Limerick, Ireland August 5, 1821. Jane died March 7, 1895 in West Brock, Ontario, at 73 years of age. She married John Acton. (John Acton reference 2747) (John Acton is #2741.) John was born 1820. John was the son of Richard Acton and Mary Acton Swanick. John died March 5, 1909 in Sunderland, Ontario, at 88 years of age. His body was interred in Was 89. He was christened in Buried West Brock Cemetery.

84 iv. Martha Shier reference 3252 (#3246) was born in Reinroe, Adare, Co. Limerick, Ireland March 3, 1823. Martha died 1858 in Brock Township, Ontario, at 35 years of age. She married William Vallentyne. (William Vallentyne reference 3253) (William Vallentyne is #3247.) William was born 1815. William died 1883 in Brock Township, Ontario, at 68 years of age.
