51. Mary5 Shier (Nicholas Jr.4, Nicholas3, Adam2, Adam1) reference 3355 (#3349) was born 1798. Mary died in Kincardine, Bruce Co. Ontario.

She married John Switzer Shier. (John Switzer Shier reference 3354) (John Switzer Shier is #3348.) John was born in Robertstown, Co. Limerick, Ireland February 4, 1805. John was the son of Adam Shier and Mary Switzer. John died February 25, 1892 in Kincardine, Bruce Co. Ontario, at 87 years of age. In 1831 he came from Robertstown to Canada and settled first in Brock Twp. his deed to v:4 S1/2 is dated March 2, 1836 and to vi; 5 SE 1/4 January 12, 1837. In 1848 he moved from Brock to the township of Blanshard, Perth Co. In 1856 he moved again and settled at Purple Grove, Huron Township, Bruce County. After his arrival in Brock, John Switzer Shier was known as John Shier III and "Big John". Like a number of other Shiers in Limerick he had taken part in military activities always on the side of law and order. When the Canadian Rebellion broke out in 1837 he had a share in quieting the disturbance. He married his cousin Mary Shier, the daughter of Nicholas Shier Jr.. They had 5 sons and 3 daughters.
